Young Honkers Drop Opener to Modoc, 21-0

Picture

9/11/09- Going into their season opener against the powerful Modoc Braves, coach Steve Prock emphasized patience when speaking about his young Honker football team. That patience was put to the test last friday night as the Honkers committed 5 turnovers and could not take advantage of several scoring oppertunities in Lakeviews 21-0 loss to Modoc.
The Honkers, with only 5 seniors on the roster matched the Braves in most of the stat catagories but could not get the ball in the endzone.
Modoc (2-0) who went 12-0 and won a section title last year used a powerful running game to score TD's in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quaters for the victory.
Things don't get any easier for the Honkers as they travel to John Day to take on the defending  3a State Champion Grant Union this friday. The game will be carried live on both KQIK radio and on the Internet at Oregon High School Sports Network. ( a link is provided on our Home page).
